What is Transition Year?
Transition Year is a one-year programme designed to act as a bridge between the Junior and Senior Cycle. It allows students the time and space to mature, to grow in independence, and to develop personally, socially, and academically.
At St. Joseph’s, TY helps students prepare for the challenges of the Leaving Certificate, further study, and working life. Pupils experience a wide variety of subjects and learning opportunities, which supports them in making more informed subject choices for Senior Cycle.
The programme also focuses on developing transferable skills such as critical thinking, creativity, and problem solving. Research has shown that students who complete TY often become more independent and confident learners, particularly when they progress to third level.
Our TY Programme
At St. Joseph’s, we design our TY programme to meet the needs of our students, while following Department of Education guidelines. The curriculum is broad, balanced, and varied, offering both core learning and new experiences.
